Reviving Tradition: Ghaneei’s Residential Building in Iran

Unveiling the Unique Blend of Tradition and Innovation in Iranian Architecture

Explore the Ghaneei’s Residential Building in Iran, a masterpiece by Polsheer Architects Planner Engineers, that beautifully marries traditional Iranian architecture with modern design principles.

The Ghaneei’s Residential Building in Iran is more than just a residential structure. It's a testament to the rich architectural heritage of Iran, seamlessly blending traditional elements with modern design principles. The building, designed by Polsheer Architects Planner Engineers, is a development of the designer's old house, with the aim to create a larger, more integrated space for the family.

The building's unique properties lie in its respect for the historical texture of Iran and Isfahan's local architecture. The designers incorporated influential elements of Iran's architecture to address the climate, such as interlaced double skin colored windows (named orosi) and digging deep into the soil for insulation. The building's flowing circulation, including a three-stair stairway in the middle, creates various connections within the house, fostering a sense of unity.

The building's realization technology is a blend of old and new. The old bodies of the building are made of brick, while the new ones are made of stone. The two-level facade consists of CNC aluminium on the outer level and wood on the inner level. The heat is provided from the bottom, and air ventilation is achieved by opening the doors that lead to the corridors.

The design process involved a meticulous study of the contextual architecture concept and the experience of this style in the architect's previous house projects. The designers aimed to preserve the old elements of the house, such as memorable trees, vegetation, and landscape. They also utilized the local climate, materials, and old local architecture like SABAt (shelter), orsi (sash), Three-door and porch.

The project presented several challenges, especially in terms of preserving the vegetation and historical landscapes of the house. The designers successfully maintained the old berry tree in the middle of the yard and a large pine tree that forms the base of the house's vertical axis. The result is a building that is not just a living space, but a celebration of Iranian architectural heritage.

The Ghaneei’s Residential Building in Iran was awarded the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
